Sutton’s tough start in the top tier continues

The tough start to life in the Lincolnshire Premier Division continues for Long Sutton as they were again on the hand of a heavy defeat.

The first top flight fixture at Paradise Field for many years saw Woodhall put in and amass 287 for 8.
George Pocklington (29) and Prasanna Jaywardebe (58) set the base with an opening stand of 87 before number three Aaron Keverne-Onyon hit the accelerator, scoring 51 from 45 balls.
Everyone chipped in for Woodhall with number 10 Freddie Bailey (13 not out) hitting two sixes in his four balls at the end of the innings to reach 287.
Charlie Crip took 3 for 67 for Sutton, captain Jake Burton was arguably the pick of the bowlers as he claimed 2 for 36 from his 10 overs, Jacob Gray took 2 for 24 from six and overseas player Davico Krugar 1 for 59 on debut.
He was then unusually out hit wicket for four as the home side were dismissed for just 71 in the 22nd over.
The only players to reach double figures were opener Nathan Oliver (14) and Tim Norrish (21), the pair having put on 51 to take their side from 7 for 2 to 58 for 2, before the final eight wickets fell for just 13 runs.
Long Sutton 2nd XI lost at Woodhall Spa 2nd XI in the South Lincs and Border League Division One.
Woodhall elected to bat first and scored 228 for 8, Ryan Hughes’ 110 playing a key role.
For Sutton, Steve Norris claimed 4 for 24 while Oliver Taylor took 2 for 28 and Faz Mukhtar 1 for 31 after Joe Whitaker (1 for 29) gave them a good start with an early wicket.
Similar to their 1st XI, the 2nd XI were all out for just 75 in 23.2 overs, number eight Edward Munson top scoring with 31.
For Woodhall, Alex Hodson bowled 7.2 overs including five maidens taking 7 for 3.
Long Sutton Sunday 2nd XI in the Mid-Norfolk Sunday Cricket League Challenge Cup were defeated by Terrington St Clement.
Sutton could only score 119 after being put in.
Alistair Drohan (38) and Jack Smith (22) were the only ones reaching double figures this time.
Steven Milnes (3 for 18) gave the visitors hope as he picked up the wickets of the top three who each scored four leaving Terrington 26 for 3.
Fellow opening bowler Arjun Odedra was also tight with his bowling as his five overs went for just 12.
But after that Terrington smashed 103 in just five overs to ensure the target was chased down in just 16 overs.
Jason Young hit 53 not out off 26 balls and Sam Patel 49 not out in 27 deliveries to emphatically see their side into the next round.
