Company to close after owner’s death

A South Holland company is to close for good following the death of its owner in a road crash in Derbyshire in January.

Tilly’s, a garden party, events bar and marquee hire business in Gosberton, was run by businessman Nick Stockdale who died at the age of 57 after the collision.
“It is with a heavy heart that I let you know that I am going to close,” said a statement on the company’s Facebook page by his widow Karen.
“Since Nick’s death I’ve been struggling with the reality of continuing to manage our business with the impact of grief on my two daughters and myself.
“It is extremely difficult to give our customers the 100 per cent attention they deserve when as a family we are feeling so shocked and devastated.
“For the wonderful people who have booked with Tilly’s, I will be in touch in due course to return your deposits and recommend alternative suppliers to help you where I can. My thanks to everyone who has supported Tilly’s, Nick and our family over the years. Customers and our wonderful team of staff, it’s been a pleasure to work with you all.”
Many people commented on the Facebook post with sympathy and understanding of the decision to close.
“Nick was a ray of sunshine to deal with, nothing was ever too much trouble, even when it came to some of the little ones of our members of staff losing their favourite cuddly toy they won on a fairground stall, he went out of his way to source replacements. We feel like we have lost a friend, not just a business service,” said Carole Hind.
“I’m so sorry to hear this, Nick was amazing when you did our wedding for us back in 2015, I remember saying did the marquee come with a floor – it didn’t, but Nick made one.
“Sending your our sincerest condolences for your loss of a lovely man, a true gentleman,” said Becky Evans.
Staff member Ellie Keeble said: “Hands down the best people, company and family I have ever worked with. You’ve always been so much more than bosses and have supported and cared for me in so many ways over the last five years. Love you all.”
