LETTER: Spalding is littered with off-licences

Yet another application to open an Eastern European food shop but really a licence to sell alcohol.

I am very disappointed by the town centre manager’s non-committal response when asked about the number of similar shops.

It’s not the number of food shops that is the problem but the growing number of outlets for the sale of alcohol. Spalding is littered with them.

And as for asking for a licence to sell booze seven days a week from 8am to midnight! What is this obsession with drink? Have we gone mad!

Add together all the pubs, supermarkets and Eastern European food stores that are licensed to sell drink, the town is awash with alcohol outlets.

Is it any wonder there is a problem with street drinking?
