Popular Rotarian Alan passes away

Former Spalding businessman Alan Porter has died.

Mr Porter, who was married to the late South Holland District Council and Lincolnshire County Council member Angela Newton, passed away on Tuesday, October 24.
The couple (pictured on their wedding day) were together for 37 years before finally marrying in 2014. Angela died in August 2022.
They launched the business AP Sales in 1984 with auctions of small livestock and fruit and vegetables on the former Cattle Market in Spalding.
The business finally became an established estate agents which was sold in 2012 to Hill and Clark.
Mr Porter retired several years before the sale and went on to support Angela in her role as an independent council member. She was awarded an MBE for her community work in South Holland.
He was also a long-standing member of the Rotary Club of Spalding and Welland and was president in 2011/12
He instigated the creation of the club’s annual Two Lips Ball which has raised more than £60,000 over the years.
Alan was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship for making a significant contribution to the Rotary.
The couple had a son, Andrew, daughter-in-law Helen and grandson Joe.
