Green Team: Depot celebrates getting top award

The waste and recycling depot is celebrating a prestigious award which has been received recently.

The award really sets a precedent across local authorities, as they are not handed out regularly.

This week I want to congratulate the depot in West Marsh Road on receiving this award as it shows the hard work and dedication of all the staff down there.

The gold award, presented by Pristine Condition, recognises that South Holland District Council has had no manual handling accidents at our depot site in 2014.

This demonstrates the dedication our staff have had in preventing accidents before they happen.

Barry Bradley, operations coordinator, is very proud of the achievement.

He can be seen in the picture above, receiving the award from Phil Bladon of Pristine Condition Ltd.

He said: “Our health and safety record is not always shouted about, but this is something we can all be proud of.”

Barry is responsible for the induction programme currently ran for all new starters down at the depot.

The four hour induction covers many aspects of health and safety, including manual handling, and is mandatory for all recycling and refuse staff.
