Late strikes seal first win

Holbeach United have their first win on the board in this year’s Thurlow Nunn First Division North after getting the better of Haverhill Borough.
Goals in the last 15 minutes from Connor Pilbeam and George Frost sealed the victory on the Suffolk/Essex border on Saturday.
Tigers boss Danny Clifton described it as ‘like a basketball game’ and was grateful that his side took their chances in the end.
“To be fair it could have gone either way,” he said. “Both teams created chances but it was just as if nobody wanted to win it.
“Luckily for us in the last 15 minutes we got the two goals.
“We started with a back three but were getting cut through at times and the game was like a basketball match.
“But we switched to a back four for the last 20 minutes and we were brilliant.
“I did say to my assistant Chris Carter that I just wanted one to go in off someone’s backside and lo and behold that’s basically what happened.
“George Frost was working really hard and doing everything we asked of him but he came up against a goalkeeper that was in great form.
“Finally though he got a really good goal five minutes from time rounding off a really good move.”
It means four points from the opening two games for Holbeach.
As The Voice went to press, the Tigers were due in League Challenge Cup action at home to FC Peterborough (7.45pm) kick off.
They’re at home on Saturday when Leiston U23s are the visitors before being back in action the following Wednesday (August 16) with a trip to Whittlesey Athletic.

Tigers: Rigby, Barnes, Carter, Compton, Cook, Frost, Ling, Nicholson, Oldham, Pillbeam, Yambasu. Subs: Coote, Hoyle, Johnson
Attendance: 63.
