Town comfortably beaten by Deeping

Spalding Town 1st XI had a weekend to forget as they were heavily beaten by second placed Market Deeping in the Lincolnshire Premier Division.
After being put in Spalding were in trouble early on at 56 for 5 despite opener Chris Dring’s 32 from just 22 balls.
All five wickets fell to Hayatullah Niazi who claimed 5 for 24 in his eight overs.
Nilantha Atapattu (27) and Brandon Andrews (29 not out) took the total into three figures with plenty of overs left.
But the former was out to Ashar Hafeez (2 for 23), the first of five wickets to fall for 13 runs, the last four batsman amassing a total of one run between them as Spalding were 120 all out in the 32nd over.
Connor Gillet led Deeping to a nine wicket win thanks to a run a ball 79.
Overseas player Mitch Freeman (1 for 29) ended George Woods’ (25) attempt to anchor the innings, but fresh from taking 2 for 2 off four in the Spalding innings Josh Smith hit 15 not out to seal Deeping’s win in the 29th over.
Town are seventh in the league and host Grimsby in sixth this Saturday at Seas End Hall.
