£1,500 worth of Christmas trees cut down and stolen from Baytree Nurseries field

Thieves have cut down and stolen about £1,500 worth of Christmas trees from a field in Cowbit.

Approximately 30 trees – belonging to Baytree Nurseries at Weston and worth up to £50 each – were taken overnight on Saturday. It’s the second year running that Baytree has been targeted by Christmas tree thieves.
Angry owner Reinhard Biehler said: “A chainsaw and large van or truck have been used. There are tyre tracks leading from the field.”

The 5ft-6ft Nordmann trees are the more expensive type of Christmas tree because they drop fewer needles.

The site entrance has now been secured and the remaining trees, which are being grown for next year’s crop, have been sprayed red to discourage any further thefts. The paint will grow out over the year.

Lincolnshire Police have been informed. Anyone with information should call 101.
