LETTERS – Apologies to those who voted for me

Following on from my failure to get re-elected to South Holland DC, I would like to thank the people in St Mary’s who voted for me and apologise to them for not doing enough to secure wider support.
I was obviously disappointed that not only could I not secure the wider vote, it was also clear on the night that with at least 45 people choosing to vote for William Hayes alone, I couldn’t even secure the solid Conservative vote.
I don’t understand what I did to make this so, but do hope that others didn’t choose to not vote for William because they didn’t want to vote for me, it’s bad enough losing my own seat, without worrying that I cost someone else theirs.
Wishing to end on a happier note I am sure, knowing what I do about the two Independents who beat us, that they will make excellent ward councillors and the people of St Mary’s will be well represented in their dealings with the council.
