Injury robs Broom of chance to snatch victory for Seconds

Market Rasen 20
Spalding Seconds 17

Spalding’s first XV were without a game so it gave the Seconds the chance to take centre-stage.

On a cold blustery day, both sides made the most of the conditions and there was some attractive and determined runs from both sides with Spalding captain Richard Stevenson and veteran Justin Cole featuring prominently.
The home side scored first with the first of four unconverted tries but Spalding quickly replied with a well-worked touchdown from Ryan Medlock converted by Ryan Finch.
Rasen had marginally the better of the following exchanges and regained their lead before half-time. Another try was added by the home team after the break before Connor Broom brought Spalding back into contention with a well-taken unconverted score.
Rasen added to their lead James Lacey crossed the line for an unconverted try to bring Spalding to within three points.
The visitors were unlucky not to take the lead when Broom’s late run took him clear, only for a leg injury to halt him with the line at his mercy.

Sleaford Colts 0
Spalding Colts 17
Tries from Will Stevenson, Henry Duce (converted by Callum Fergusson) and Ben Waters earned the Colts a comfortable away win.

The first team had been due to play Northampton BBOBs but they conceded so Spalding were awarded a bonus point win.
This Saturday they play Daventry at home, KO 3pm. Daventry have already achieved promotion, not having lost a game all season.
However, early in the season at Daventry, Spalding we were unlucky not to come away with a win with two tries disallowed late in the second half.
