Two bank workers have supported a colleague by raising hundreds of pounds for a colleague.
Mandy Ward, branch manager at Nationwide in Holbeach, with Nicky Harrell, decided to attempt to walk 100 miles each during July to raise funds for Macmillan.
They chose the charity because of its support for their colleague Sarah Beasley who was diagnosed with stage four cancer in March 2021.
“Nationwide Building Society takes a great amount of time to ensure they commit to their Social Investment work,” said Nicky. “We fundraise for many charities throughout the year, with Macmillan being high up on that list, but we wanted to make sure that this particular money went to our local Macmillan support network, in honour of Sarah.
“She continues to be her lovely, bubbly self whenever we speak to her.”
The pair worked out the distance between all nearby Nationwide branches was 100 miles so throughout July evenings racked up the miles to meet that distance.
In total the pair walked 229.59 miles and raised an amazing £685.93.
“Many evenings it would have been far nicer to be sat in the garden with a glass of wine,” Nicky continued. “But knowing the background reason for us doing this walk, we didn’t falter.”
They presented a cheque to Macmillan’s Lorraine Buckingham at the branch recently.
