Over 100 people celebrated Churches Together in Spalding and District’s 60th anniversary on Sunday.
The event commemorated 60 years of ecumenical life, worship and service, meeting at Spalding Grammar School where the Council of Churches first met, in the school library, on February 16, 1954.
Welcomed by Kevin Taylor, guest speaker The Venerable Tim Barker, Archdeacon of Lincoln and Chair of Churches Together in All Lincolnshire, drew on a rich variety of memories from Spalding and his early ministry to the delight of the massed congregations.
The opening greeting was by Rev John Bennett in his capacity of chair of governors of Spalding Grammar School and a lesson was read by John Hayes MP.
Hymns and songs were led by the musicians of Spalding Baptist church and sound and projection was by courtesy of South Holland Community Church.
