South Holland District Council leader Gary Porter scotches rumours of intention to leave

South Holland District Council leader Gary Porter has dismissed suggestions that he is ready to leave his role.

Coun Porter (pictured), who is also vice-chairman of the Local Government Association and chairman of the Conservative Councillors’ Association, was rumoured to be lined up for a more advanced political position.
However, the leader of the Tory-controlled local authority and St Mary’s ward member says he intends to stand again.

He said: “I’ve been selected again as a candidate and, if we win the election, I would like to remain as leader because I enjoy it, but that decision is in the gift of the group.”
He joked: “I too have heard that I’m supposed to be moving on but I’d like to know what to first!”
