The latest lecture of the Spalding Gentleman’s Society is a bug’s life.
Matt Shardlow the CEO of Buglife will be speaking tomorrow (Friday, October 14) about the consequences of the now recognised sharp decline in insects.
A spokesman for the socity said: “Prior to the launch of Buglife in 2002, there was no organisation specialising in invertebrates, which had been brought sharply into focus by the creation of the UK Biodiversity Action Plan in 1994.
“In 2019 Insect declines had become big news after a series of reports documented global declines.
“Buglife undertakes practical conservation work predominantly within the UK.
“With so many species to choose from it has to prioritise work areas with the current focus principally on pollinators and freshwater habitats.
“However, as the custodian of so many invertebrates, action is also taken to save species at risk of UK extinction and sites of major importance that are under threat.”
Spalding Gentlemen’s Society lectures are held at Broad Street Methodist Church, Spalding and start at 7.30pm with an admission charge of £3 each at the door.
