Peter unveils new book

A Sutton Bridge man has published a new book on the history of farming in Lincolnshire.

Feeding The Nation – A Celebration of Lincolnshire Farming is the work of Peter Clery.

It covers a thousand years of agricultural history in the county dating back to 1086.

The 85-year-old retiree used to own the land around Sutton Bridge and built the port there.

He says his hobby now is agricultural history having previously published the book 1000 Years of English Land.

A liveryman of the Worshipful of Farmers, Peter said: “I was at a meeting when I thought to myself, ‘this is the story right here’.

“Lincolnshire farmers have been producing food and feeding the country for centuries.

“I started researching and writing during the lockdown and it’s progressed from there.”
