Saturday football: Holbeach up to fifth after big win, Pinchbeck handed heavy home defeat

Holbeach United climbed up to fifth place in the Thurlow Nunn First Division North standings after a 4-0 win over Haverhill Borough on Saturday, while Pinchbeck United suffered a 4-1 defeat at home to Newark and Sherwood United in the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North.

Starting with the Tigers, they made it three wins from five games in the league with an impressive victory at Carter’s Park.

Two strikes from Cal Davies, a Joe Millinson goal and John Yambasu’s clincher did the business for Danny Clifton and Simon Roberts’ side, who are back in action at Downham Town on Wednesday night (7.45pm).

Meanwhile, Pinchbeck’s recent fine form came to a halt as they were soundly seen off at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

Neal Spafford put the Knights ahead on 13 minutes and they held onto that lead up until half time.

But a rapid treble from Nyle Blake (46, 57 and 71) gave Newark and Sherwood the initiative before Kieran Cummings (75) put the result beyond doubt.

In the PDFL Premier Division, Moulton Harrox are third after thrashing defending champions Uppingham Town 4-0.

Declan Earth (2), Louis Steadman and Ian Bradbury grabbed the goals for Kev Nottingham’s side, who are now third.

Crowland Town were also 3-1 winners at Oakham United, but Tydd were hammered 7-3 at Netherton United and Holbeach Reserves slipped up 1-0 at Oundle Town.
