Local lottery set to launch

A council partnership has launched its own local lottery with a £25,000 jackpot.

The South and East Lincolnshire Lottery is aiming to raise money for local good causes.

South Holland District Council first spoke about the setting up of a lottery for its residents back in 2020.

Now it’s been launched by the South and East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership of which it’s a member alongside Boston Borough Council and East Lindsey District Council.

The intention is not to raise a profit with good causes set to keep 50 per cent of the price of any of the £1 tickets they sell.

Of the remainder, ten per cent will go to a central fund to be distributed to other good causes with “the remainder being put towards prizes, operating costs and VAT,” a partnership spokesman said.

They continued: “The South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership (SELCP) is delighted to announce the launch of South & East Lincolnshire Community Lottery, an exciting new fundraising initiative for good causes. The lottery will be a great way for people to support good causes whilst providing a chance to win cash prizes.

“Leading lottery management company, Gatherwell, has been appointed by SELCP to run the scheme, having already launched many similar lotteries elsewhere.

“When the lottery launches in autumn 2022 people will be able to purchase tickets online, and support the good cause of their choice. Tickets will cost £1 a week. The draw will be weekly with a jackpot of £25,000, other prizes being £2,000, £250 and £25.”

A joint statement put out by the leaders of the three councils, including Coun Gary Porter, states: “We have seen how other councils have launched similar initiatives and how their communities have benefitted as a result. It will provide our people with support and also another tool to empower themselves.

“We look forward to witnessing the same impact in South and East Lincolnshire.”

An online event for groups looking to get involved is being held on Tuesday, September 27 from 12pm-1pm. For more and to sign up click here.
