Hat-trick hero Harry Sharman was impressed with the ruthless streak shown by his Spalding RFC side in Saturday’s 70-13 battering of Bakewell.

The talismanic skipper ran in three of Town’s 12 tries at the Memorial FIeld in what was their biggest win of the entire season.
Although a little baffled by the ease of the success against a team that will finish in the top six, Sharman told The Voice that scoring 70 points should not be sniffed at.

“It was a bit of a strange one,” said the captain. “We were always comfortable and it was incredibly one-sided

“It was almost a shame that it proved to be so easy, but it has given us a lot of confidence ahead of our play-off.

“I am pretty chuffed with the lads, though. In the past, we’ve reached 30 points and taken our foot off the gas.

“That wasn’t the case on Saturday. There was a big crowd and it really gave everyone a lift.

“It was important that we won to secure a home draw in the play-off – and we did just that.”

Sharman, who will enjoy a well-earned break along with his team-mates this weekend, also admitted that the club know very little about promotion play-off rivals Newbold on Avon.

He added: “They’ll be a different kettle of fish.

“I can’t remember ever playing them at any level. But it’ll be a tough game for sure.”
