Driver escaped prison term

A Sutton Bridge man in court for the second time for driving while disqualified, has escaped an immediate custodial sentence.
Stevie Jackson (27), of The Quay, West Bank, admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance, when he appeared before District Judge Peter Veits sitting at Boston Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecuting, Marie Stace said that at 7.25am on December 1, Jackson crashed his Vauxhall Vectra car into a funeral director’s window in Bridge Road and gave a positive breath test to police and a blood sample which was still being analysed.
She said Jackson had been banned from driving for driving under the influence of drugs in November 2020 and was also not covered by any insurance for the car he was driving which belonged to his wife.
Mitigating, Philippa Chatterton said Jackson and his wife had split up as a result of his taking her car and crashing it.
Judge Veits said it was Jackson’s second offence for driving while disqualified and told him he had shown a ‘total disregard for a court order’ and that he had thought about sending him straight to prison.
However, he said he had decided to impose a suspended prison sentence of six weeks’ custody suspended for a year and to ban him from driving for a further two years.
He was also ordered to pay a total of £213 in court costs and charges.
