New festival to be a blast from the past

Holbeach is set to get medieval as part of a free new festival in the town.

The Holbeach Medieval Festival is taking place at a number of locations in the town on July 2 and 3.

Living encampments are set to bring the period to life. Not only will there be military re-enactments but there will also be opportunities to try out crafts from the time as well as numerous food, drink and entertainment options, all with a medieval theme.

Coun Tracey Carter has come up with the idea and is working with David Smith, who has organised a similar even in Wellingborough, on curating the event which is hoped will become an annual event in the town’s calendar.

“I wanted to do something a bit different that would bring people into Holbeach,” Coun Carter said. “I think this is a free event people will come from miles around to experience.

“David came down for the Big Bang shopping event, stopping overnight, and we put together a number of ideas.

“There’s going to be some really exciting things to see and do across the town.”

Coun Carter says funding has been sourced from South Holland District Council and other sponsors have come on-board including Chosen Holbeach, The Crown, Cards and More, EGM Insurance, M Painting and Decorating, Bingham Woods, Midwest Polychem and Seagate Homes.

The latter are letting events take place at the ground of its Manor House base while other events will take place across the town including Carter’s Park.

“What a fabulous backdrop the Manor House will be,” said Coun Carter who says she will look to lay on transport to help people get around the town. It should be a really good event.”
