Drink-driver shopped after being spotted drinking in his car at 7am

A driver who was spotted drinking alcohol in his stationary car at 7am was found to be almost twice the legal limit.

Police received a tip-off from a member of the public about a man in an Audi A8 with personalised number plates, Boston magistrates heard on Wednesday.

When Deividas Druciunas drew off from Sheep Market in Spalding, police followed and stopped him in Station Approach.

The 28-year-old, of Castle Close in the town, gave a positive roadside breath test. A later intoxilyser reading showed 67 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Druciunas pleaded guilty to the August 11 offence and was banned for 18 months.

Magistrates offered him a drink-driver rehabilitation course to reduce the length of the ban, if successfully completed.

He was also fined £350 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £35 surcharge.
