Tigers hampered by isolation and injury concerns

Holbeach United were forced to call off last night’s (Wednesday) scheduled pre-season date at Moulton Harrox due to player unavailability.

Tigers boss Phil Barnes has been hit by the requirement for numerous players to self-isolate due to possible COVID-19 exposure, while others were suffering with injuries.

It’s the second game Holbeach have been forced to postpone at short notice during pre-season, having also cancelled their trip to Wisbech Town a few weeks ago.

Barnes, who has also seen as many as seven of his first team squad from last season leave the club, has though managed to get a number of players to commit to the cause for the upcoming campaign.

Harry Grigas and Mohammed Hamza have both agreed to join the club as new signings after impressing over pre-season, while Aaron Eyett, Luke Wilson, Ricky Drury and Jordan Keeble have all committed themselves to remain at Carter’s Park.

They will all hope to be involved Holbeach’s next scheduled friendly at Bourne Town on Saturday – although some doubt surrounds that clash given the fate of the Harrox fixture.

As for Moulton, co-bosses Tim Cole and Bobby Patterson were happy enough with what they saw in Saturday’s 3-1 friendly defeat at higher-graded March Town.

New signing John Smith netted for Moulton in that one.

They will be back in action at Broad Lane to take on UCL Premier Division North side Sleaford Town tonight (Thursday, 7.15pm).

* Pinchbeck United return to the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field this Saturday for a friendly against Doncaster Rovers Academy under-18s (1pm).

It’s £5 for adults to attend, £3 for concessions, £2 for children aged 10-16 and under-10s go free.

Knights boss Lewis Thorgood, meanwhile, has continued his recent rebuild by adding the attack-minded Nathan Moss, midfielders Harry Machin and Joe Melson and striker Enoch Opayinka to his squad.
