Business elementary for Watson

A six-year-old has been running his first business through lockdown by growing and selling his own fresh food.

William Watson decided to start growing vegetables as a lockdown project and he has been selling them outside his nan Anne’s Boston Road home.

“He’s caused quite a stir,” Anne Watson said. “He’s been growing all sorts of plants and veg.

“It’s like he’s carrying on from his great grandad Bill Badbrook who was a very keen gardener.”

So far this year William a pupil at Whaplode Primary School has earned himself £200.

He grows the plants at home and has even taken on an allotment with the help of dad Jason.

“It kind of started off with the first lockdown last year when we threw a few seeds down and it’s just grown from there,” said Jason who works as a chef and uses his son’s produce. “He has a little stall outside the house and its proved very popular.

“He loves it and as he’s such a young man just £1 is a lot of money to him.

“He really enjoyed taking his profits to Smyths and buying toys.

“But he’s also been told he can’t just spend all the money he’s earned.

“I’ve told him he needs to put some away and he’ll need it for more compost and plants for next year. He’s already planning for that.”
