Mason seals a Tydd win

Jake Mason’s late strike earned Tydd a fine 2-1 win over Leverington Sports in the ChromaSport PDFL’s Peterborough Senior Cup on Saturday.

Tydd looked to be heading for defeat after Dale Palmer’s first-half strike saw them 1-0 down at the break.

But an own goal and Mason’s 85th-minute header earned the hosts a big victory at Tydd St Mary Playing Field.

They were the only South Holland side to taste victory in the supplementary competition over the weekend.

With Moulton Harrox and Crowland Town not in action, Long Sutton Athletic were handed a 1-0 reverse by Peterborough North End Sports at London Road.

Also beaten were Pinchbeck United Reserves, who were thrashed 5-0 at Uppingham Town.

In the only Peterborough Junior Cup clash with South Holland interest, Tydd Reserves couldn’t match the heroics of the first team and they went down 4-0 at Cardea Reserves.

Meanwhile, Long Sutton Athletic A managed a 1-0 victory at Rippingale and Folkingham Reserves in the Peterborough Minor Cup.

The in-form Ash Allen settled that contest for the Magpies with his third goal in as many games.

However, Holbeach Bank were battered 8-0 at Huntingdon Town Development and Sutton Bridge United slipped up 2-0 at home against Thurlby Tigers.
