A group of footballers used their return to the football pitch to raise money for the Children’s Ward at Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital by taking on a team of postmen.
South Lincolnshire Swifts, whose 1st XI play in the Boston and District League and were previously known as Pinchbeck United Sports, try to do a couple of fundraisers a year.
They’ve a big one with celebrities planned for their new home at Donington Community Centre in October to raise funds for the family of a young cerebral palsey sufferer.
Before that though, last Saturday they organised a friendly against Royal Mail FC.
Each player paid £10 to be donated to the hospital which is run by the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
The postmen delivered in the match too, earning a 3-1 win.
A total of £260 was able to be presented to a representative from the charity who attended on the day.
Jamie Wadlow, the Swifts’ 1st XI manager, said: “It was a really good day.
“It was arranged at the very last minute.
“We try to do a couple of fundraisers a year but haven’t been able to do one for a while.
“A few of our players are posties and they were able to get some of their colleagues to play us.
“The woman who collected the money was over the moon when we gave it to her.
“It was really nice to get that reaction.
“We’re really looking forward to our fundraiser which is also set to happen in Donington on October 17 for which we hope to have more information about soon.”
