Special Wombling for mental health

There will be a special Womble for mental health in Spalding later this spring.

The popular Wombles of Spalding Common group is supplying equipment for the planned event.

Vanessa Browning, from Community Mind Matters, and Mark Le Sage, of the Rightside Trust, are joining forces to host the event when restrictions allow.

“The outside world and nature is very important to people, especially those with mental health issues,” said Vanessa.

“We haven’t set a date yet because of the pandemic, but we hope it will be soon.

“The Spalding Wombles have been great and we are reaching out to people who may not feel confident, for any reason, to join.

“Our Womble will also offer support and signposting to mental health services.”

The Mental Health Matters Bench installed in Ayscoughfee Gardens has been busy each Monday with people keen to talk.

There are plans for a second bench in Spalding to help people who might need support for any mental health issue.

“Ayscoughfee is beautiful and the people have been great, but there is a need for a similar service in other parts of the town,” said Vanessa.
