Swimming club ready to dive in next month

Spalding Amateur Swimming Club are hoping to get back into the pool next month.

With the government roadmap they’ve earmarked April 20 as the day they can restart swimming lessons at the Castle Sports Complex.

After the initial lockdown, the club were able to get back into action in September.

But that lasted just a few weeks before the next lockdown hit in early November.

Plans had been drawn up by the club to return again in January but they had to be put on hold alongside all sport.

Ahead of the return to sports the group are confident they can be back and making a splash in just over a month’s time while still following government guidelines on social distancing.

The club’s chairman John Pailing told The Voice: “As with hundreds of other clubs throughout the UK whether they be social, drama, music or sport connected, Spalding Amateur Swimming Club is looking forward to the day when near to normal activities can return.

“With the latest government guidelines giving gradual lockdown relaxation dates together with a proposal that June 21 will be the day when hopefully normality finally returns, Spalding Amateur Swimming Club is planning to restart swimming lessons on April 20.

“This obviously depends upon swimming pools being open and with this in mind, our committee is liaising with Spalding pool management.

“We will be posting bulletins on our Facebook page giving updates as and when all relative information becomes available.

“This has been a very difficult period affecting everyone in one way or another.

“However, as the vaccination program continues at a pace more positive signs are appearing and following the guidelines and keeping safe, we can hopefully look forward to a brighter future.”
