A Spalding motorist caught almost four times the drink-drive limit last Sunday has been given a suspended sentence.
It was the second time in a year that Andis Bergs had given a high reading and he was on bail for the first offence.
The 35-year-old was held in custody before appearing at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday to plead guilty to drink-driving on both occasions.
Bergs was first arrested in Spalding on May 27 last year. In custody he blew 105 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath; the legal limit being 35.
And on February 14 this year, he had excess alcohol while driving a VW Golf in Albion Street, Spalding. Following his arrest, he blew 139 micrograms.
He also pleaded guilty to driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and having no insurance on that occasion.
Bergs, of Chestnut Avenue, was given four weeks’ custody for the first drink-driving offence and 12 weeks for the second, to run concurrently, suspended for one year.
He also received a 12-month community order with up to ten rehabilitation activity requirement days.
He was banned from driving for three years, which can be cut with completion of a drink-driver rehabilitation course.
He must pay £122 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
There was no separate penalty for the licence and insurance offences.
