Tigers earn comeback draw at Coalville

VOICE football

Holbeach United battled back to earn an impressive 2-2 draw at higher-graded Coalville Town in their final pre-season friendly on Tuesday night.

Goals from Ant Carney and Ash Way put the Evo-Stik League First Division South side 2-0 ahead, but free-scoring defender Niall Delahoy and winger Lee Beeson hit back to secure the Tigers a share of the spoils.

Bossed by John Chand and Graham Drury this season, Holbeach get their UCL Premier Division campaign under way with a trip to Peterborough Northern Star on Sunday (11am).

The unorthodox nature of the kick-off is down to a Groundhop Day initiative in the Peterborough area, with the other two UCL Premier Division fixtures involved being Deeping Rangers v Harborough Town (Friday, 7.45pm) and Yaxley v Long Buckby (Saturday, 11am).

See Thursday’s Spalding Voice for a full preview to the Chestnut Avenue clash.

  • Spalding United’s pre-season friendly with Elite Sports Academy was called off on Tuesday. Their next pre-season date is at home to Wisbech Town on Saturday (3pm).
