Nene Valley Harriers’ throws coaching team came up trumps again when Isaac Huskisson threw a personal best in the hammer at the invitational UK Athletics Jumps and Throws Festival in Birmingham to place fourth under-20.

Huskisson, who has only just turned 17, threw a huge 50.93m with the 6kg hammer on July 20, proving all the hard work he has been putting in in training with his dad and coach, Gary, and veteran international, Andrea Jenkins, is paying off.

Huskisson’s success builds on that already achieved by clubmate Robbie Shaw, who won a bronze medal in the shot put at the recent English Schools competition, and is set to compete at the UK Schools Championships in September.

The young hammer thrower is keen to continue improving on his current 21st national ranking.

Isaac (pictured) said: “It’s been my first season as an under-20, and I am pleased with what I did at Birmingham, but I will strive to do even better.”

Gary added: “Isaac is constantly setting himself new targets, and with the help of Andrea he has adapted to the new age group well.”
