South Holland to go back into lockdown from Thursday

South Holland is to join the rest of England in going into lockdown amid rising numbers of confirmed cases of coronavirus.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson made the announcement today (Saturday) that from Thursday households are being told to stay at home, non essential shops will be closed and hospitality businesses will have to revert to takeaway systems. The furlough system is set to be extended throughout November, the government said.

People are also being encouraged to work from home if they can, though education facilities including schools will remain open.

All non elite sport will also be postponed and gyms are to close.

The measures are to last until December 2 when the tiered system will be brought back, the Prime Minister said.

Though confirmed cases are rising in the area, South Holland remained in tier one, the lowest tier of the three tier lockdown system the government announced just three weeks ago.

This lockdown though applies to the whole country.

It comes just days after South Holland and the Deepings MP Sir John Hayes urged against lockdown measures being brought in for the area.
