Late Barton strikes see Spalding United dumped out of Emirates FA Cup

Spalding United 1
Barton Town Old Boys 3

Three late goals in five minutes sent Spalding United crashing out of the Emirates FA Cup on Tuesday night.

The Tulips looked to be heading to an extra preliminary round victory over Barton Town Old Boys when Scott Floyd fired home a super opener on just five minutes at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

That’s how it stayed up until the 82nd minute, when Josh Batty’s strike triggered a purple patch for the lower-graded visitors.

Ben Hinchliffe put Barton ahead on 85 minutes, before Grant Tait’s long-range screamer settled the tie two minutes later.

Spalding, who handed starts to new signings Spencer Weir-Daley, Shane Clarke and George Zuerner, haven’t enjoyed much cup success in recent years and miss out on a healthy cash prize from the FA as a result of the loss.
