Runners set own marathons

The 2020 London Marathon may not be taking part for the non-elite, but that’s not going to stop local runners like Samantha Hall and Shaun Turner.

After ten years of trying, Shaun (43) was delighted to finally get into this year’s event, initially set for April before being put back to October 4.

It’s now been cancelled but the payroll manager for Manor Fresh is determined to run 26.2 miles for the first time on the day.

He will instead be doing 11 laps around Sutton St James where he lives.

“I could have got frustrated, or I could just run around anyway,” said the father of three. “I put it on Facebook and a few people have responded saying they would like to do a lap with me, which is great.”

Shaun is raising money for Children with Cancer UK and you can donate at https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/ShaunTurner.

Another person who’ll be attempting to run the event while at home is Spalding runner Samantha.

She actually marked the original date of the run by doing 26.2 miles on a treadmill while on her drive during lockdown.

She too is going to be running the distance somewhere around Spalding.

Samantha said: “I have contacted a few friends and a running club and they are going to run sections with me to help support me as it seems too daunting to do it on my own.”

She’s running for the Mental Health Foundation and you can donate to her cause at https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-display/showROFundraiserPage?userUrl=SamanthaHall16&pageUrl=1
