Decision on Radar Junction trial to be made

A decision on what to do next with the A16 Radar Junction near Crowland is to be discussed at a meeting on Monday, July 6.

Lincolnshire County Council’s Planning and Regulation Committee is to meet to rule on whether to trial a controversial barrier system for six months at the road’s junction with the B1040 or look at implementing a speed reduction.

One option councillors are not being asked to look at is a roundabout as the report to the committee on behalf of Andy Gutherson, executive director of place says that’s too expensive and would cost £4million.

That’s double what the authority said in February when it had already argued it was too costly.

The report states that since it opened nearly a decade ago, there’s been 21 accidents that resulted in injury at Radar Junction, three of which resulted in fatalities.

The application for the barrier trial came before a February meeting of the committee, but after concerns were raised by Crowland residents, the item was deferred and a site visit for committee members took place in March.

The report to the committee states: “There is much opposition to the proposals with the anticipated impact in terms of inconvenience, severance and financial loss to local businesses and residents being viewed as potentially severe.”
