Street marshals being threatened after picture circulates online

Street marshals currently trying to patrol the one-way systems introduced in Spalding, Holbeach and Long Sutton are receiving threats, South Holland District Council has said.

The authority has issued the statement after a picture of two marshals not socially distancing while patroling Holbeach was published online.

However the district council says the two marshals are from the same household.

In a social media post, the authority said: ” A photo of two of our street marshals stood together has been circulating online today.

“We would like to reassure residents that these marshals are from the same household, and all our staff have been reminded of their responsibilities and the need to socially distance.

“We have seen threats directed at our marshals, and would like to remind people that they are working to provide safety and advice to residents who want and need it.

“We take the welfare of our staff seriously and will not tolerate any form of abuse, online or in person.”
