COVID has not gone away.
Sad to see that opinion on the Cummings affair seems to be dividing into party political and Brexit lines, as are some aspects of the government and opposition approach to the COVID pandemic.
All I can say about Cummings is that I wish he had not made the decisions he did but if there was ever a time to put aside politics and concentrate on how to beat the virus, it’s now.
We can worry about blame once we have won this battle, the last thing we need is a lack of national unity.
It’s hard to balance public health against economic survival, the bill so far is huge. There is no simple answer.
The government will need money when this is over or public services will be cut to the bone, austerity will be a bit dropped off, there is no magic money tree out there.
A time will come when we all have to live with a hidden killer in our midst, until or unless we have a vaccination available.
To a large extent it’s down to each individual one of us to take our own decisions.
Personally I’ll be usually wearing a mask in any public space, keeping at least 7ft away from others whenever possible, washing hands very often and carrying hand sanitiser in my pocket.
In a tragedy for their families, so far it’s reported that 36 people have died from COVID-19 in South Holland. Others have been very ill, more will have the virus, not know and thus spread it.
The government may set the rules but as the economy opens up again to avoid national bankruptcy, our own personal choices will decide our future and that of our country.
