100 years of roots in the village

The centenary of a local group has been marked by the planting of a tree recently.

The ladies from Pinchbeck St Mary’s Mothers’ Union planted a cherry tree at Pinchbeck War Memorial on October 9.
It commemorates the centenary of Pinchbeck Mothers Union (1921 to 2021) and the 150th anniversary of the worldwide movement, (1876 to 2026), which was founded by a lady called Mary Sumner.
Janet Bettinson, who has been the group’s chairwoman for 41 years, led the proceedings by saying a couple of prayers before starting the process of planting the tree.
A spokesman for the group said: “Thank you to parish councillor Terry Moore who assisted with the planting.
“We currently have 25 members and meet on the second Thursday of each month in Pinchbeck Church Hall from 2pm.
“If you are interested in joining us please contact Jane by phone on 01775 769729.”
