£1.7m flats plan for derelict Bridge Hotel site

A £1.7million redevelopment of the site of the derelict Bridge Hotel at Sutton Bridge will “complement” the new marina development, a planning application states.

Proposals have been put forward to build 21 flats on the site in Bridge Road, which are likely to sell for around £82,000 each, the plan said.

Demolition of the existing fire-damaged building, “plagued by vandalism and arson attempts”, has already been approved. It had originally been intended to retain the existing facades but a fire last August caused too much damage, the application said.

The new proposal, submitted to South Holland District Council on behalf of owner Mark Andrews, is to rebuild on the site, to replicate the scale and appearance of the hotel.

The application referred to the new £900,000 Cross Keys Marina, due to open early next year.

It said: “The redevelopment of this prominent site will complement these projects.”
It added: “The proposal will offer an opportunity for this derelict and unattractive site to be put to a beneficial use…to put an end to the visual harm and constant vandalism and arson attempts that have plagued the site in the last few years.”
