Litter bins in Holbeach weren’t emptied for ten days because the person who usually does the job was on holiday.
Rubbish, including cans, packets and bags of dog poo, were left strewn across the floor as the bins reached capacity but people still tried to put their rubbish in.
One Holbeach resident was so disgusted by the state of the bin in Church Walk he felt compelled to contact the Spalding Voice.
The man, who asked not to be named, said: “Several of the bins are overflowing but the worst one is in Church Walk.
“There is rubbish all over the floor in the church yard and it’s getting into nearby neighbours’ gardens.
“I’ve reported it half a dozen times, either to South Holland District Council or Holbeach Parish Council, but nothing has been done.
“I was told the person who empties the bins is on holiday but surely someone else can cover for them?”
The resident was particularly annoyed that the South Holland District Council refuse truck had passed the overflowing bin twice but the bin men had not emptied it
Speaking after the bin had been emptied, he added: “The bin was finally emptied on Thursday morning, ten days after the previous collection and during that time two lots of black bag collections took place with the bin lorry going right by it.”
Parish council clerk Chris Seymour said he was aware of the situation and contacted the district council three times.
He said: “I also spoke to Coun Paul Foyster, who is also a district councillor, who in turn hopefully got the problem solved.
“The person who empties the bins was moved onto other duties or was on holiday. Normally our litter picker helps him out when he is off, but he was on holiday as well.
“Coun Graham and Carol Rudkin even went around and emptied several of the bins a week last Friday.”
A spokesman for South Holland District Council said: “We aim to empty litter and dog bins under our responsibility irrespective of operatives who usually undertake tasks being absent from work.
“Should members of the public feel that a litter or dog bin needs attention they should report the matter so that appropriate action can be taken.
