Young leader rewarded

A young Spalding woman is reaping the rewards of taking part in a youth leadership scheme.

Hannah Gordon, of Park Road, was presented with a Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) certificate by Pat Luckett, president of South Holland Rotary Club, after she spoke to members about a course she attended recently at Grafham Water Centre.

RYLA is a leadership program supported by Rotary worldwide.

The course Hannah participated in consisted of an action packed week to:-

  • develop personal leadership skills and time management;
  • understand team dynamics;
  •  participate in business simulations;
  • take part in exercises to demonstrate skills;
  •  participate in physical and water sports.

The 18 to 26-year-old participants, organised into groups of about 10, kept busy each day with a variety of physical and mental tasks.

At the end of the week candidates return to their business/profession/community with greater skills, awareness, understanding and self-confidence, and more able to contribute in a leadership capacity.
