Year long works on the A16/A151 (McDonald’s Roundabout) will start later this month.
The work is part of a £20m Levelling Up funding and will start on September 25.
After preparation works set to last two weeks, a combination of temporary traffic signals and lane restrictions will be in place.
Night time road closures will follow later on in the scheduled 12 months of work.
Coun Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “Not only are our ‘Levelling Up’ works in Boston past their halfway point, but we’re now able to announce that our works to increase capacity on Springfield Roundabout in Spalding will start next month. (NB the council calls it the Springfield Roundabout, though it is the one with McDonald’s alongside it and not the A151 junction directly outside of the entrance to Springfields).
“As part of this important project, we’ll be increasing the size of the roundabout; adding additional entry and exit lanes on the A16; and improving entry and exit lanes on the A151.
“Similar to our other ‘Levelling Up’ projects, this project will help reduce congestion on the A16 and future-proof the roundabout for A16 upgrades down the line.”
“As with any major road improvement project, some disruption on local roads is inevitable when work is underway. However, we’ll be doing everything we can to keep people moving and to ensure access to the nearby businesses is maintained.”
The project will be funded by a portion of the £20m in ‘Levelling Up’ funding awarded to the county council in October 2021.
The remaining funding is being used across four other projects, including improvements to Spalding’s A16/B1180 Greencell Roundabout, the A16 Marsh Lane Roundabout, and active travel improvements in Boston and Spalding.
