Wonderful that Flinders is coming home

It was truly wonderful to read the news that Matthew Flinders is coming home!

When I first read about the campaign, I must admit that I thought we didn’t stand a chance. Bodies are almost never relocated for reburial and initial responses did not seem optimistic.

But I can think of few more impressive examples of successful campaigning.

Our MP Sir John Hayes was off the mark like a shot – amplifying in Parliament with all his famous eloquence the excellent advocacy of the local efforts of our ‘Matthew Flinders Bring Him Home Group’.

Without the commitment he obtained from the Leader of the House of Commons, coupled with his successful work with the Bishop of London, this Donington triumph would not have been possible.

This is just a quick letter to say thank you to all those involved! Most of all to Sir John, who always stands up for the people of South Holland and the Deepings.
