A 24-year-old died of a drugs overdose the day after he’d told his family he was starting a new job, an inquest into his death has heard.
Jake Beck died on Friday, July 11, 2025 of multiple drug toxicity, a recent hearing at Lincoln Coroner’s Court ruled.
A statement from his mum Lindis Beck was read out during the proceedings where she described her son as a ‘wonderful person’ who refused to go to the doctors for mental health issues.
His body was found at what coroner Jayne Wilkes described as a ‘homeless encampment area’, off the Coronation Channel in Spalding
She told the hearing that Mr Beck had an ‘extensive history of alcohol and drug abuse’.
A post-mortem revealed he had a ‘potentially fatal’ levels of morphine in his body at the time of death as well as elements of cocaine, codeine and diazepam.
Miss Beck’s statement said: “Jake was a wonderful person, always willing to help anybody out.
“He was polite, respectful and knew how to make other people laugh.
“He loved his music and could play the guitar and drums.
“He was very arty and would make his own jewellery as well as making things from wood and metal.
“As a sibling and a son, we miss him as a family so much.
“He did suffer from his mental health for a while but wouldn’t go to the doctors to seek help.”
Miss Beck continued that the breakdown of an 18-month relationship ‘had a significant affect on his mental health’ and he had ‘lost his steady job through no fault of his own’.
The hearing was told that the day before Jake’s body was found Miss Beck had ‘noticed his mood was down’ but that this job ‘seemed to be making him happy’.
She dropped him off in Spalding as he told her he would stay with friends that night before going to work.
The inquest heard he was found by Amanda Scales who had dialled 999.
When paramedics arrived she was stroking the hair of the man she knew as ‘Punk Rocker Jake’ from ‘in and around Spalding’.
Delivering a conclusion of a drug related death, Miss Wilkes said there was no evidence to indicate any third party involvement.
“On the balance of probabilities he died from the unintended effects of his self-administered drugs,” she said. “I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the family of Jake for the loss of this wonderful lad.
“I’m truly sorry for their loss and thank them for their support with the inquest process.”
