The new ‘Oversight Minister’ has officially been licensed to oversee four South Holland churches.
Reverend Mark Williams was officially confirmed in the role for the Sutton Elloe Benefice comprising St Mary’s Magdalene in Gedney, St Nicholas in Lutton, Christ Church in Gedney Dawsmere and St Mary’s in Long Sutton following a service on Monday night at the latter.
It was overseen by Bishop Nicholas, the Bishop of Grantham who is currently acting Bishop of Lincoln.
Revd Williams grew up in Liverpool and went to Lancaster University.
After serving his curacy in Bishop Stortford he was made team vicar in Chipping Barnet and he returned to Lancashire for spells overseeing churches in Burnley, Salford and Blackburn.
A spokesman for the boniface said: “We are very pleased that Mark will be appointed as our oversight minister – the official title, though I am sure we will all refer to him as our vicar!
“At interview he impressed as an experienced, enthusiastic and outgoing priest who is prepared to get involved in our communities and willing to listen as well as to propose his own ideas.”
