Why some church bells are set to ring at 6pm on Saturday night

Churches in Spalding and other areas around the country are to ring bells at 6pm today (Saturday, October 30) in a bid to send a message to world leaders about climate changes.

St Mary and St Nicholas Church in Spalding will be among those ringing at that time as part of the Clang For Climate.

It’s any attempt to raise awareness of climate change issues ahead of the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) set to take place in Glasgow.

The campaign is urging others to others to stand on the streets and make a similar din at that time, similar to the claps for the NHS that took place during the first pandemic.

A statement sent out by the South Lincolnshire Green Party says: “On the eve of COP26, we want to send the strongest possible signal to world leaders to show that people all over the UK and all around the world demand immediate action to save our planet and its people from catastrophe.”
