Welland Yacht Club’s open day proves very popular as competitive action takes a back seat

Welland Yacht Club hosted their annual open day on Sunday – and once again they managed to entice a host of new faces to give their sport a try.

Among those taking to the water were John Hayes, Conservative candidate for the forthcoming general election, and his son William.

The event was held in conjunction with the Royal Yachting Association’s (RYA) push the boat out campaign to encourage people to try sailing and other water sports.

With the early showers over the weather was on side, which helped attract a good level of participation from the locality.

A Welland YC statement said: “Everyone who took part enjoyed the experience – especially, it would appear, the children with many staying on the the chance of additional goes.

“A big thank you to everyone who came and took part in our open day and we hopefully look forward to seeing you again.”

There was no racing on Sunday due to the open day activities.

Competitive action will return this weekend.
