A call has been made for talented people to get involved in a weekend of festivities in Spalding.

Plans for three days of pre-Christmas events are progressing and organisers want to hear from choirs, singers and other performers.
The switch-on of the town’s lights on Friday, November 28 is part of the fun after Santa’s arrival (7pm).

This year is also expected to include Saturday entertainment organised by traders and a festive Sunday market. Anyone wanting a stall is urged to book quickly.

Organiser Jan Whitbourn, business manager of Tulip Radio, said: “I know it is summer and many people will not have had their holidays yet but it will soon be here!”
She appealed to a wide scope of people to get in touch as soon as possible.
Jan said: “Are you in a choir or are you a singer, dancer, entertainer or performer?
“Do you have an organisation that would like to be a part of the Christmas Lights Switch On? Could you provide a prize for the event?
“Will your school choir come be part of the great event we are planning this year?”

Bakkavor will again be one of the main sponsors of the school choir competition.
Terry Moore, chairman of the staff shop committee, said the team was so impressed with the entrant levels and commitment from schools last year that they have offered to fund prizes again.
Prizes will be £500, £250 and £100.

Terry said: “It was a fantastic event and well supported by the community.
“We are more than happy to be supporting the event again this year.”

Jan said: “This Christmas is not only about Friday night.
“The traders are trying to get together some entertainment for Saturday, and Sunday is also going to be vibrant, with a festive market not to be missed.”
