Weekend of road traffic collisions

Three serious road traffic collisions took place in South Holland over the weekend.

Just before 7pm on Saturday, October 14, Lincolnshire Police were called to a single vehicle, a grey Seat Leon, overturned in a field in Sutton St Edmund, a spokesperson said.

Police said they attended the incident with Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue and East Midlands Ambulance Service.

The driver, from the Bourne area, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries and was taken to Peterborough City Hospital by ambulance, police said. Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area immediately prior to the collision to contact Lincs Police on 101, quoting incident 371 of 14/10.

At 12.55am on October 15, police attended Edward Road, Spalding. A 28-year-old male driver of a silver BMW 320 was arrested for drink driving offences, police said. Police said he was initially taken to Pilgrim Hospital for treatment for his minor injuries, then taken to Boston Police station. He has since been released under investigation.

Inspector Gareth Boxall said this is an example of how one person can take up hours of police time, with two officers having to escort the driver to hospital for treatment, and then to the police station.

At Spalding Common, a road was closed for almost nine hours while police investigated a single vehicle crash in which four people suffered serious injuries, one life-changing, said police. Witnesses to the incident just before 3am on Sunday morning should call Lincs Police quoting Inc 50 of 15/10.
