Wednesday football: Tulips pick up point at leaders, Tigers fire five in cup cruise

Spalding United drew 1-1 at BetVictor NPL South East Division leaders Carlton Town on Wednesday night, while Holbeach United walloped Whittlesey Athletic 5-1 in the KitmanUK UCL League Cup.

Starting with Spalding, Tom Maddison’s 32nd minute penalty saw them trailing 1-0 at in-form Carlton at the break.

But Joel Brownhill levelled for the Tulips in the closing stages to secure an impressive point.

Meanwhile, Josh Ford helped himself to a hat-trick for Holbeach as they eased past Whittlesey in round one of the cup.

Fellow frontmen Ryan Oliver and Jonny Lockie rounded off the scoring at Carter’s Park.
