Weather thwarts Sutton victory charge

Long Sutton did the hard work, bowling out hosts Ketton Sports for 168 in 44 overs, but rain ruled out any chance of making a dash for victory in their South Lincs Border League Championship clash.

The Sutton reply ended after just two overs with nothing to show on the scoreboard, although they did pick up 13 points from their share of the draw.

Long Sutton Mallards’ Mid-Norfolk Sunday League Challenge Cup hopes were ended at home to Fakenham side Barney & Fulmodeston.

The hosts got off to a shaky start and fell to 48/7, despite 22 from Charith Harshana.

Howard Cresswell (18), Jack Smith (15) and Jonah Speed (13) hit out lower down the order to push the score on to 88 all out after 24 overs.

Arjun Odedra removed visitors’ opener Alex Payne for just one but Harry Nunn (71no) and Jacob Seed (13no) were untroubled on their way to a winning score of 91/1 in just nine overs.

The Mallards have the chance to climb out of the bottom two of the Mid-Norfolk League Kevin Grimmer Division on Sunday when they welcome a Grimston side sitting just one place higher in the table.
